Ceremony

We always prided ourselves as being different, and doing things against the grain (so to speak).  Our wedding can be no different then the way we live our lives, for our wedding symbolizes who we truly are.

So let's see, to begin, we're getting married, Oct. 31st,  on Shawn's birthday - his 50th to be exact, oh wait, let's add to that, it's also Halloween!  In the Celtic tradition (Shawn's Irish - don't forget!), the Samhain is the luckiest day to get married ... The Samhain is October 31st.....  The year, 2013!  We are getting married at 13:00.  All those numbers speak for themselves!  So, knowing my love for trees & nature, Shawn's Irish roots, and our deep spirituality, we've decided to have a Celtic themed wedding....What exactly does that mean?  Well, firstly, we'll be getting married barefoot with all those present standing in a circle.  This brings us closer to nature and the spirits.  Also, we will be having Wedding Ring Tattoos opposed to the symbolic wedding rings (there's also a practicle reason for this - Shawn can't wear Jewellery at work!!!).  The tattoos are scheduled for August 17th, and we'll be having Arcs & waves as our ring symbol.  Those of you who know us, know that we loathe tatoos generally, but this one idea has become our deepest symbol of  committment to eachother. August 17th, therefore, will ultimately become our official wedding anniversary date.  Instead of exchanging rings during the wedding ceremony Rhyan will bind our hands together with a piece of tartan (material) from Shawn's clan. This is called "handfasting". While doing this Rhyan will recite this speach "Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be the shelter for the other.  Now you will feel no cold, for each of you will be the warmth to the other.  Now you are two persons, but there is only one life before you.  Go now to your dwelling, to enter into the days of your life together, and may your days be good and long upon the earth."  During the entire trip, Callum will be responsible for caring of the Oathing stone, which is used as a bridge between the couple's ancestors, and the immediate sacred place.  This stone is given to the couple prior to the exchanging of vows, so that the couple will consent in the presence of all of their ancestors both living and dead to bear witness to the words of power that they vow to eachother.  Our Oathing stone came to us from my Mother-in-law's home, and it brings with it a special spiritual meaning to us, and will be put in a place of honour afterwards.  One thing for sure it's going to be fun, and way out of the ordinary (just like us!).
